Simply Chloe Dao Collection on QVC

Chloe Dao

Chloe Dao’s story is a 21st century American success story and one for the ages. She came to America from Laos as a child, along with her parents and her seven sisters. Though she was encouraged to pursue science or medicine, she knew from age 10 that she wanted to be in the world of fashion design.

She later graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in patternmaking. Afterwards, she worked making patterns, while learning the ins and outs of buying and merchandising. By the year 2000, Dao was a seasoned professional in the fashion industry, and it was then that she opened Lot 8, a boutique which she named for the eight Dao sisters.

In 2002 Dao won Season 2 of Bravo Television’s Project Runway, even though the camera often focused on the dramatic exploits of other contestants. The fact was, she had a gift for designing for women’s figures, and she had the technical skills to put together beautiful creations. In the years since, Dao has steadily grown in stature as an American fashion designer of note. She may not have the instant name recognition of Tom Ford or Kate Spade – yet!  But Chloe Dao is living the dream she had as a little girl, and that’s a true definition of a success story.

You can find Dao’s “Simply Chloe Dao” collection on QVC.com, with designs that draw on the clothing sold at her Lot8 boutique. There you’ll find designs made by a real woman, for real women.

Dao’s  “Kim” dress, from her Summer 2010 collection, is a one-shouldered creation that’s fitted at the waist and done in a pale blue and silver pattern on white. The top and the skirt are beautifully draped, elegantly sugar coating any figure flaws.

“Kara” is another gorgeous summer dress, in a textured white with an unusual criss-cross neckline, with a fitted waist and darts at the bust, for a perfect fit that gives any figure hourglass curves.

“Oxana” is the perfect summer party dress, with a halter neckline and flared, subtly pleated skirt. Done up in a pale cream color, it is sure to flatter skin tones either with or without a tan, while the halter neckline would be perfectly played off against a gorgeous pair of drop earrings.

Chloe Dao is the kind of fashion designer that women can really get behind, because she “gets” what makes women look great, and she offers her designs at prices that they can actually afford. Dao is one of those success stories that inspires much more admiration than jealousy, because it is clear that she not only has the necessary talent and skill, but also the work ethic it takes to succeed in a cutthroat industry with great aplomb and class.

Simply Chloe Dao Collection can be seen on QVC July 2nd at 9am and 6pm EST.

Celebrity Style: Jennifer Lopez

In recent celebrity fashion news, Jennifer Lopez knocks it out of the park once again. The red-hot singer wore a skin-tight dress by Gianfranco Ferré, ultra-sexy black platform pumps and a clutch purse by Etro for a benefit concert at NYC’s Apollo theatre recently. Notice how she kept the fashion accessories simple and let the dress be the star. That’s the best way to do gilded creations like this dress.

Lopez and husband Marc Anthony were recipients of the Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis Arts and Humanitarian Award at a ceremony that also honored the work of Aretha Franklin and the late Michael Jackson, both of whom were inducted into the Apollo Hall of Fame.

With her hair worn in long loose waves, and make-up emphasizing her eyes, Lopez made the perfect counterpoint with toned down lips and somehow managed to look both smashingly sexy and slightly demure at the same time – a sort of hybrid of a young Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot as she looked in Masculin, Féminin. Clearly marriage and motherhood have only made a positive impact on Lopez’s look!

Gianfranco Ferré, from the Italian city of Legano, is one of those fashion designers who knows how to skillfully mix tasteful, classic, and drop-dead gorgeous. Like another master of style named Tom Ford, Ferré studied architecture. He started his fashion empire making belts and jewelry, and pretty soon he was working with giants like Karl Lagerfeld. Extravagent fabrics, and extravagant colors like gold are prominent in his work, and both are perfectly showcased in J Lo’s dress at the Apollo event.

Do her hair and makeup signal a slight shift away from the over-glammed look that has dominated for so long? Well, she’s always been a maker of celebrity fashion trends, so you never know. At any rate, the non-trout lips in a blushy neutral are a refreshing change, and she’s never looked better. Katherine Heigl is planning to have another baby

Photo from fOTOGLIF

The ‘Killers’ actress – who already raises nine-month-old adopted daughter Naleigh with her husband Josh Kelley – admits they are thinking about extending their brood further and hope to have another child in the near future.

Katherine revealed: “We would like to have a second child – adopted or biological. We’re not ruling it out.”

The 31-year-old beauty has been inspired to raise a second child by the recent earthquakes in the Caribbean nation Haiti, where the area suffered mass devastation and thousands of children lost their parents.

She told Germany’s Gala magazine: “Just look at Haiti. They’re so many parentless children. It breaks my heart. I want to help.”

While Katherine is keen to lend her support to others, Josh believes an addition to their family would provide “a little friend” for their young daughter.

Although they have no specific plans at the moment, Katherine admits anything is possible because she is so spontaneous.

She added: “I often plunge into things and hope everything will be alright.”

Katherine has always been dedicated to motherhood, and even quit her work on medical drama show ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ so she could spend more time with Nayleigh.

Tailored Outerwear, Vintage Photo Contest

This photo is of my Grandpa, Richard Waltham (on the left) and his work friends taken in the late 1930s. My Grandpa was a banker and in his spare time he was an artist and photographer. I am a fan of the tailored look, not only do they have a very interesting sense of style, but it gives you an idea of what it was like back then, there is a lot of depth to it, from the water on the road, the advertisement to the left of them and the crowd of people behind them. My Grandpas story.
Hope this is of some help.
