Business Skills For Careers In The Fashion Industry

Business Skills For Careers In The Fashion Industry

If you have even a slight interest in fashion, the industry may offer what you need to have an engaging, exciting career. This industry caters to a range of interests, including fashion photography, merchandising, marketing, buying, fashion stylists, and fashion design.

Some have what it takes to survive in the fashion industry. Some don’t. Some say success in fashion depends on talent, others sure will power. One thing is for sure- very few make it to the top echelon of fame and fortune to design fashion couture. But one may succeed in the fashion industry on a smaller scale.

Merchandising, marketing, and buying skills will most likely be the part of the same job description, unless you work for a large company that can afford to employ specialists in each area. A fashion merchandiser makes sure a storefront puts on a strong front. They are in charge of the presentation of items- the placement of clothing on mannequins- what jewelry highlights which outfit, for example. A fashion merchandiser is a trend spotter in a sense- they keep up on latest trends so they may know what to stock the store with.

Fashion merchandising requires more than a knowledge of what’s hot in fashion. A merchandiser must also be business savvy- they have to make sure the clothing bought by the store is in the target customer’s price range, that the store itself can afford to purchase the clothing at a certain price, and how much of the clothing will sell. And a merchandiser will need a few marketing tricks up his or her sleeve. A fashion merchandiser must also know how to negotiate with the suppliers of the clothing. Negotiating skills involve excellent communication and possibly ability to wheel and deal.

Fashion photographers must have the best job in the photography business. The high end photographers get to meet famous people. Fashion photographers must go where the shoot is, so they may take many expenses paid vacations.

A fashion stylist is the bridge between fashion and psychology. Stylists match clothing to people’s personalities. A good stylist is able to ensemble an outfit that will list the spirits of the wearer. A fashion stylist may work for individuals and prepare outfits for special events and occasions, or they may work for television shows or on a movie set.

Fashion styling requires pure talent. A stylist must choose clothing that is a flattering color as well as the right fit and shape to flatter the individual’s body type.

An entrepreneurial nature is a bonus in the fashion industry. Many jobs require you to work for yourself and your success will depend on your ability to market yourself. An entrepreneur must be self-motivated and able to network socially.

The fashion industry is always changing. This makes for a lot of work for someone working in this field, albeit a perfect field for anyone who becomes bored easily! Competitiveness and creativity are perfect personality matches in fashion related occupations. If you have what it takes the fashion industry has a lot to offer.

Careers In The Fashion Industry

Careers In The Fashion Industry

A thing of beauty is a joy forever! This thought holds complete significance in the fashion industry. It is an exciting industry that attracts many brilliant, ambitious, creative, talented, committed and hard working people. Success in the fashion industry calls for an ultimate passion and enthusiasm to achieve set targets. The desires to create, see, explore and appreciate beauty must be inherent. It’s a creative field and one needs to possess as well as acquire certain skills that are indispensable, such as thinking creatively beyond the obvious and the ability to carve a niche in almost all the possible projects by making it different yet stunning than the previous one.

Careers in the fashion industry revolve around beauty. In order to be successful in this field you should have the unquenchable thirst for beauty in its all-relevant forms. Changing fashion statements determine the change in the trend of clothing, ornamenting and above all, adopting new ways of carrying oneself.

It is the style that brings elegance with a difference in different designs. Style is an individual aspect. No two people can have exactly the same style statement because every person has a unique style of their own. Therefore, the concepts related to fashion are also different. Some people feel that fashion is the passion of the slaves and that is why they try to dress and carry themselves in a manner similar to that of models walking on the ramp. This thought is challenged by a different thought; those who go against the fashion trends are themselves the slaves of the fashion.

No matter what different concepts abound, fashion is a career industry that is never going to fade. There are immense opportunities in this field, as you can opt for any of the following job prospects pertaining to your areas of interest: modeling, catwalk choreography, fashion photography, designing, merchandising, make-up artists, hair styling, and accessory designing.

Modeling: Modeling is a promising career that requires having a certain confidence and a pleasing appearance that needs to confirm to the basic standards of fashion designers. One needs to have an inclination towards glitz and glamour, as it is part and parcel of this industry.

Catwalk Choreography: Catwalk Choreography aims at training models to present their attire in an appealing and professional way. Designers hire talented choreographers because they know that every movement with the background music counts on the ramp. It can make or break an entire fashion show.

Fashion Photography: Fashion Photography is a very demanding career that requires the utmost dedication, sincerity, sensitivity and at the same time objectivity towards the subjects. It is the job of the fashion photographer to present clear expression to almost all the possible facets of style such as fabric, design, designer, model and the like.

Fashion Designing: Fashion designing is one of the most promising careers in fashion industry. It needs to have the ability to think, comprehend and implement the latest and original ideas in order to be successful in this field. Designers can specialize in apparel, textile, accessory designer and many more.

Fashion Coordinator: A fashion coordinator is responsible for coordinating fabrics and trimmings, quality and design. He/she needs to keep a constant track of production schedules and needs to be aware of the status of buyers’ orders.

There are several career options that need to be explored by aspiring students. You can certainly excel in this field provided you believe in the proverb; “work is worship” and have immense potential to rise and make your mark in the fashion industry.

Working In The Fashion Industry

Working In The Fashion Industry

Working in the fashion industry:

When you work in the fashion industry you get golden invites to a lot of exclusive events with all the stars and usually get to party fabulous with all the great drinks and bubbly champagne because a party is not a party without a specialty drink. In the fashion industry, they have the head of marketing and PR and they usually develop friendships with flower shops, major magazine companies, boutiques, salons, clothing stores and everything and every place, etc.

The fashion industry deals with models, make-up, fashion and style. They have editors and editors-in-chief just to make sure that everything is where it’s supposed to be which is supposed to be a personification of over the top glamour. They also have assistants and other workers that make-up guest lists for events and have event designers, and designers of all kinds and all stars.

Note: When working in the fashion industry, there are no tears in fashion, and gum chewing is definitely unacceptable which is considered to be very unprofessional and you must always keep yourself groomed at all times and really pay close attention to your appearance.

Fashion week: Fashion week always kicks into high gear.

However, there are many benefits while working in the fashion industry, especially if you work for a major magazine company, you get a lot of free stuff that designers send over to the company and goodie bags, and you get to score a lot of fun stuff and tickets to get into events and backstage passes, you even get a press pass for every beauty event there is in order for you to interview the models and the models on the come up just so you can write a piece and an article for your job and including for fashion week and if you’re a fashion intern, you get to live in one of those fabulous loft apartments depending on the location you came from or your job location.

Know this: When you’re in the fashion industry, you end up having a clear understanding of how you can add fashion into your life. I myself is a person who really lives for fashion and style and I call myself a true fashionista and knowing what and what not to wear just like the show on TLC.

In those fashion jobs, they usually have the wardrobe closet with all of those fashion samples that you can test out and you get to go backstage to talk to the models because in fashion, you must always work hard by trying no to mess up, but at the same time, be able to take constructive criticism without any fuss or tears because know one wants to have a cry baby on staff.

Fashion week: When fashion week looms in, fashion week is almost like looking into a crystal ball.

When first getting a job in fashion: The first day on the job is kind of an intense time to be late, so you must always keep on with communication at all times whether you’ll be late or not which shows responsibility on your behalf and be happy with the work and the position that you get because it’s considered a great opportunity with benefits that are great, no girl could possibly say no.

Now a fashion assistant does all the shopping and picks up the outfits and accessories for the necessary shoots and the beauty snoops are the ones who do the on the fly interviews, checks out what’s new on the market and acting as an insider without anyone else really knowing about them, they usually create a story that is writeable with enough information that their bosses can read and always have to put the clothes neatly in the bag after picking up the outfits and accessories and if you’re an intern on an internship in the fashion industry, it’s all about learning to become the best.

Now there’s a lot of competition in the fashion industry because it’s really tough and you need to be more thick skinned than what you really are. One of the most important things in the fashion industry is to have a party weeks before fashion week and need to make sure they have enough stars and celebrities at their parties for the purpose of the press.

And last, but not least, when working in the fashion industry, you must be capable of handling a job and meeting deadlines by completing every job successfully with a lot of confidence within yourself because at the end of the day or week, you’ll be rewarded for all of your hard work with all of those fabulous items and goodies which is the best.

Lily Cole may retire from modeling

Photo from fOTOGLIF

The flame-haired British beauty admits her heart lies in acting, and her days left in the modeling world may be numbered.

She said: “I love acting and if the right opportunity did come along I would definitely consider quitting altogether.

“It is certainly something I want to prioritise in the future. It’s not a finite decision though – I may not get the opportunity. If a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity came along I’d even consider leaving Cambridge University to do a film. I’d definitely weigh up my options and talk to my tutors about flexibility.”

However the 22-year-old model admits her time in the industry has helped her develop as an actress.

She told Vogue.co.uk: “It’s hard to distinguish whether it has helped but I don’t know any other way. It’s definitely helped confidence wise. I find acting much more of a challenge – acting is definitely harder.”

Recently Lily confessed she was not into following trends and prefers to wear timeless pieces.

She told BANG Showbiz: “To be honest, I’m not a huge follower of trends. I just go with what I feel and what I like, I have a lot of things in my wardrobe that like I consider quite timeless and that I’ll wear again and again through the years.”

Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton

Photo from fOTOGLIF

Marc Jacobs wanted to get rid of Louis Vuitton’s monogram print. The designer – who is now the creative director of the fashion house – wasn’t keen on the company’s famous logo when he started there 12 years ago but soon realised it would be a mistake to lose it from the collections.

He said: “When I arrived at Louis Vuitton 12 years ago, and I was figuring out how to create a new tier of Vuitton for a different customer, I thought it would be clever to hide that monogram. which was very stupid of me. That logo is part of what makes the Vuitton so desirable. It allows people to become members of an aspirational club.” Although there are many fake Louis Vuitton bags around, Jacobs is confident the label will always remain desirable as consumers know its quality.

He told The Times newspaper: “The real Vuitton will always be about a level of quality and attention to detail that makes it aspirational. It’s about display and when that gets out of control it’s a disaster, but in moderation, it’s lovely. You can either be ashamed of having pride in your appearance or you can relish it in an intelligent way.”

A year later, everyone wanted her.” Over his career, Mario has shot some of the world’s most famous people – including Kate Moss and the late Princess Diana – but admits his images haven’t always gone down well.

Speaking at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, Testino – who describes himself as “part psychologist, and part magician” – said: “I’ve been criticized for pretty, smiley photographs, but at least someone is happy! In my mind, I am always giving the image to the sitter.”

Testino – whose clients also include Burberry, Lancome and Britain’s Royal Family – also said he has no desire to stop working in the near future as he needs to fund his extravagant lifestyle. He said: “I can’t just have one fabulous thing, I need a hundred. That’s why I am always working.”
